March 7, 2011Im buying a 2005 Ram quad cab short box 4x4 6speed diesel from a friend. The truck has some balls but I would like alot more. It has a 4 inch turbo back exhaust already, and I was wondering if anyone on here had ideas on what I could do to really make this truck a sharp strong fast truck. I already plan on a leveling kit and it has 33`s on it and sits well (i already have a mudder so I dont need height) and fender flares to help it look better, but as far as the motor is concerned, Im not exactly sure as to what to do....Ill have approx 4k budget to work with so im considering alot. The seller said if Im gonna crank up power outta it hed suggest a stage 2 clutch off the bat, and i told him i was thinking about that, and an air intake and tuner and a few others, and want to take the baffles out of the turbo so it whistles loud. Anybody have a good idea for what mods work well together or things you have done that you really like? And how to turn upthe fuel pump and what other things i can do that are easy that will give me more power and smoke....My goal is to round about 450-500hp in the end. Banks had a few kits that iv looked at but Id like to hear other opinions on everything. Thanks Everyone

March 7, 2011There are alot of options out there, but Banks should never be one!!
The 450-500 is a pretty easy goal, but will be pushing the stock turbo pretty hard. I use the AFE drop in filters for most 3rd gen applications. Remove the silencer ring. For fuel, install an AirDog lift pump. On the clutch, get a Kennys or Valair dual disk.
Now for the power side. You will need gauges, and the cheapest way to gain power and have gauges is with a module running both. Edge Juice CTS is a cool unit, Bully Dog has a couple, TST. Quad makes one, but stay away from it, it takes rail pressure to dangerous levels. If you buy gauges separate, you can get more radical programmers - mainly a Smarty or a PPE.
I just took an 05 back to stock and have alot of good used parts from it, plus I can hook you up on new stuff as well.

This was my favorite on my CR. I downloaded the performance tune and drove it for 2 years with it in there. When I was using a Smarty I had to change tunes when I towed heavy to keep egts in check.
March 7, 2011I agree with smokin on everything. I like the smarty for the 3rd gens and I have never tried a ppe or know of anybody so I don`t have any ideas on it. I have installed 3 tsts on people trucks and I don`t like them. Had nothing but problems. I have two buddies running quadzilla adrenalines with pulse and they really like them. Havn`t had a single problem with them.
I second the drop in filters, the stock intake is already a cold air intake and your just wasing money buying anything else.
And get the airdog, commonrails need clean fuel and the airdogs are the best.
March 7, 2011I got to 450HP with AFE Mega Cannon (I know a complete and utter waste of money), MBRP 5" turbo back exhaust, Smarty Revo, ATS Intake horn, and a SB Dual Disk Clutch. Of course gages are a must.
I really like this power level and have no plans to go any further, very fun to drive and reliable.

March 10, 2011My e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org contact me on there...im interested in the parts id like to start building this up now then slowly add more... email me and we can talk on there please
March 13, 2011Yes I am interested in the good used parts. What do you have? And i would like ideas for a good combo, and brands of products. How do I remove the silencer ring and adjust fuel pumps? ( Currently in Iraq and cant tinker with it or have some hands-on time to get to know it) lol but right when im back i plan on building my dream truck
March 13, 2011Im my opinion-smarty, airdog, clutch, maybe some mild injectors. Also if your gonna do injectors I would suggest doing the industrial injection "bag-o-parts" to the cp3 to make sure you have enough fuel at the rail. Be watching I am gonna do a write up here soon on how to do it. Got two trucks to do.
